The feast of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been known in the Russian Church since the 12th century. In honor of the intercession of the Theotokos, the Grand Prince of Vladimir, Andrei Bogolyubsky, in 1165 built one of the most beautiful and unique Orthodox churches - the Intercession on the Nerl. Numerous victories of the Russian army are attributed to the patronage emanating from the image of the Mother of God.
